Begin pretentious 3rd person mode...

John Kastronis, the author of the content on Golden Daydreams, has been writing seriously since he was a teenager. He has always loved stories and the art of storytelling. From a fairly early age, he recognized that his major passion was in telling stories. His mother read to him (and his eventual three siblings) every night, instilling a love of books in him that has never faded. It was his father, who read The Hobbit to him at a young age, who introduced him to fantasy fiction. Ever since, he's devoured a ton of fantasy fiction, both good and bad.

He went to college at the University of Maryland and earned a degree in English with a focus on creative writing. Since graduating in 2004, he's written hundreds of short stories, four novels that have been rewritten countless times, a smattering of poems and essays, and some other stuff. He has had several of his short stories published by E-ON Magazine for the massively multiplayer online RPG EVE Online. He has also done some freelance video game writing when the opportunities present themselves. While working for CCP Games, he wrote a significant amount of their EVE: Source sourcebook, served as the chief story consultant for the first series of EVE: True Stories, and published a chronicle. For a short time, he wrote and drew a webcomic called Home Base Comics that may one day be archived here for posterity.

His favorite authors and biggest influences include Gene Wolfe (the greatest author alive, in his opinion), Neil Gaiman, Christopher Moore, and Iain M. Banks, among others. His all-time favorite novel is The Wizard Knight by Gene Wolfe. Seriously, go read it now if you haven't already. It is amazing. He also enjoys The Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong, Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, Neuromancer by William Gibson, The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson, The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkein, and (guilty pleasure) The Bug Wars by Robert Asprin.

As might be expected from his love of fantasy and sci-fi, he is a huge and unashamed nerd. He is an avid player of EVE Online, the Mass Effect, Disgaea, and Fallout series, greatly misses the Shadow Hearts games, wastes tons of time on the latest Romance of the Three Kingdoms game, dumps too much time into Crusader Kings II and thinks Dwarf Fortress might be the pinnacle of gaming. He loves cartoons in all forms, but particularly loves The Venture Brothers, Metalocalypse, Archer, Invader Zim, Avatar: the Last Airbender, and the original Transformers. He enjoys anime as well, counting Crest of the Stars, Excel Saga, FLCL, Death Note, and Last Exile amongst his favorites. He's never much gotten into comics, except for Deadpool because, come on. Deadpool. Webcomics, though, are another matter. Homestuck is his current main vice, because it is one of the best written things of all time, but he also takes a shine to Dr. McNinja, Wondermark, Romantically Apocalyptic and Oglaf.
